National Food Safety Research Centre (NFSR) |
Trends in global food production, processing, distribution and preparation are creating an increasing demand for food safety research in order to ensure a safer food supply. The setting up of the National Food Safety Research Centre (NFSR) was officially endorsed by the National Food Safety and Nutrition Council Meeting on the 22nd February 2006 and officially acknowledge by the Food Safety and Quality Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia on the 23rd February 2006. The Management of Universiti Putra Malaysia, in their 128th meeting held on 8th March 2006 accepted the appointment of UPM as the coordinator of NFSR. NFSR in collaboration with the Food Safety and Quality Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia coordinates research among participating universities and research institutions to enable them to focus their collective scientific expertise and resources on the multiple components, issues and questions regarding aspects of food safety. The National Food Safety Research Centre (NFSR) works closely with National and International agencies to address food safety issues along the entire production chain using efficient, science-based tools to improve food safety, thus benefiting both public health and economic development. The National Food Safety Research Centre (NFSR) responds to existing and emerging biological and chemical food safety problems by engaging in capacity building (research, postgraduates studies and professional services) and providing technical assistance and educational tools for food safety initiatives. |
